hey all,

need some advice on an aftermarket exhaust.

is it worth getting a custom exhaust made up to be split like so
http://www.alteredat...G37Exhaust5.jpg

or will the performace and sound be just as good going for an off the shelf kit that sticks to the stock arrangement like so
http://www.motorworl...xhaust_350z.jpg

any help you can give would be appreciated....cheers

Depends what your after...

If u just want a mean sound replace your cats with straight thru pipes it makes such a huge difference and thats where i actually found i got good performance from. My car has a true dual system all the way back to the rear suspension then i goes back to one pipe and into a muffler that looks kind of like the stock one only completely stainless. My exhaust honestly didnt sound all that good till i took the cats out lol now it roars.

It depends on what you are after. Unobtrusive but still has a nice note? HiTech, Fujitsubo to name a couple. Loud? HKS, greddy etc etc etc. there are heaps out there. Jump on you tube and search for 350Z exhausts.

There are heaps of arguments out there as to what exhaust is best for the Z's. But it all comes down to personal preference in the end. Also are you looking at going FI in the future? If you are then that may also effect you decision, unless you are will to swap exhausts a couple of times.

dont really want to go decat.......i've got a custom 3" system on my s15 with magnaflow hiflow cat and rear muffler.
This is fukn loud as! and i'm running a cat.

Doubt the car will ever see FI

Is theres any power advantages over a true dual exhaust system?
or is something like the Apexi exhaust system going to be as effective (quite like the sound of this)

and is there going to be much difference between an off the shelf system and a custom made system?
as the off the shelf systems are meant to be 'tuned'

Honestly the power gain u get from an exhaust on an NA arent exactly super duper so i doubt it will make much of a difference what you go with. To be honest my car really isn't that loud even with the decat pipes.

How do you go with rasp noobis?
i have high flow berk cats and a buddy club spec 4 exhaust
my exhaust is very loud. i personally wouldnt go any louder lol. i even had a comment one day asking if it was a v8!
i think a premade system is better as the welds are done by a machine rather than a person. my exhaust has a ypipe of the cats that leads to a 3 inch single pipe with a big resonater and then splits of to 2 mufflers. it doesnt drone at all caus of the massive resonator which is great cause i do a lot of freeway driving. but it really gets to me when i have a hangover lol

try www.my350z.com. they have a thread with all the brands for everything for a z
also www.350z-tech.com has a wiki with all the parts. you are most likely going to have to import from japan or the USA. although every now and then some sponsors sell them and also ebay

As previously mentioned, a lot of back-chat on 350Z-tech on this topic, but basically the consensus is that if your application is N/A, a true-dual will result in a drop in torque in the early-to-mid RPM-range due a lack of cross-bank scavenging. If you look at APS or some of the Japanese manufacturers and even X-Force, they all have a cross-pipe or H-pipe designed into their true-dual exhaust systems as a fix.

From a noise perspective, VQ engines don't sound like SR's, they're much quieter WOT because you're not pumping boost through them. Until you open up the cats with a de-cat or high-flow, the exhaust is relatively quiet.
